Skyline University Nigeria hosts its first TEDX event

The management of Skyline University Nigeria (SUN) has today, April 7th 2025, hosted its first TEDx event at the university campus. The historic event was done in the university’s ultramodern Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso Auditorium. Themed Beyond the Horizon: Challenging the Norms, TEDXSkylineUniversity hosted vibrant speakers – Ms. Anju Ganglani, Mr. Bazallahi Muhammad, Ms. Jihanne Kashanna Dib, JohnPaul Johnson, Ms. Amina Ibrahim Manzo, Abdulhameed Abdulmumin, and Faith Ene Ejih. The event was graced by the Vice-Chancellor of SUN, Prof. Ajith Kumar V. V.; the registrar, Mr. Ahmed Muhammed Abdullahi; the Director of Marketing and Communications (DOMC), Mr. Abubakar Sadiq Isma’il; the Director of Public and Government Relations (DOPR), Ms. Sarada Maganti; the Head of Finance; and other principal officers of the university. Also in attendance were staff, distinguished guests from various spheres of life and students of the university. Delivering the welcome address on the occasion, Ms. Fatima Magaji, a student of SUN, welcomed all the participants to the historic event on behalf of the university’s management. She appreciated the management for the gigantic effort exerted to ensure the smooth conduct of the event, which included sourcing the best speakers for the event. Ms. Ganglani discussed the importance of kindness as a global language. She said it transforms information into knowledge, leading her to form an organization that works to promote kindness with youths from around the world. She defines kindness as her mission. In an interesting twist, Mr. Muhammad spoke on the concept of colours, which are more than a visual presentation. With his childhood attraction to the colour blue, he indulges the participants on how colours give a new perspective to life and how instrumental they are to realising one’s goal. In her remarkable speech, Ms. Dib, shared how education is beyond the classroom but more of a source for societal transformation. She defines it as a platform for awakening. She emphasised that societies must raise youths that will see failure as a necessary pathway for success. In their distinguished and impactful speeches, Mr. Johnson, Ms. Manzo, Mr. Abdulmumin, and Ms. Ejih spoke passionately about the importance of purpose, the uniqueness of individual journeys, and the power of perseverance in leadership. They each drew from personal experiences and professional insights to emphasise that true leadership is rooted in self-awareness, resilience, and the continuous pursuit of meaningful goals. The speakers encouraged the audience—especially emerging leaders and young professionals—to remain focused despite challenges, embrace failures as learning opportunities, and stay committed to personal growth and community impact. They all indulged leaders in reflecting deeply on their values, sharpening their vision, and taking actionable steps toward becoming agents of positive change in their respective fields. Delivering the closing remarks, Mr. Usman Balarabe Bello, lecturer in the Department of Mass Communication at SUN, sincerely appreciated the management of SUN for all the efforts they put in place for the success of the event. Entrepreneurship Week: SAMSS hosts guest sessions on innovation and entrepreneurship

The School of Arts, Management and Social Sciences (SAMSS) at Skyline University Nigeria (SUN) has today, May 6th, 2025, hosted two guest sessions as it commences entrepreneurship week. The week is set to equip students with skills and first-hand experiences from professionals on how to create and maintain sustainable business practices. In his opening remarks, Dr. S. Sundararajan, the Dean of the School of Postgraduate Studies (SPGS), welcomed the students and the guests to the session. He said the week is held every year to allow the students to interface with professionals in the industry, which will empower them with knowledge adequately. Facilitating the first session, Mr. Ahmad Bature, the Executive Director of Start-up Kano, delivered on ‘Innovative business models and strategic thinking for sustainable entrepreneurship’. He engaged the students in a practical session on coming up with a start-up business, which enabled them to identify a business, identify a value proposition, identify activities and business structure, and identify budgeting and revenue streams, among other things. He then listened to group presentations on the various businesses presented by the students and advised on how they can improve in some areas. On her part, Mrs. Adenike Emmanuel, a seasoned fashion designer and entrepreneur in Kano State, presented on ‘Strategic innovation for sustainable entrepreneurship’. She emphasized on the need for the students to learn social, technical and soft skills which they can learn while in school. She advised them to explore creating sustainable products or services using natural products that are readily available. Giving the closing remarks, Dr. Raghu Yadaganti, a lecturer in the School of Arts, Management and Social Sciences (SAMSS) appreciated the guest speakers for gracing the session. Skyline University Nigeria conducts pre NYSC orientation for final year students

Skyline University Nigeria (SUN) has, on May 5th, 2025, conducted a Pre-NYSC Orientation Programme for its final-year students, preparing them for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme. The orientation, which brought together students from various departments, was organized to equip prospective corps members with essential information and life skills that will enable them to transition smoothly into the one-year mandatory national service. The event featured insightful sessions facilitated by university staff and invited experts who shared practical guidance on topics such as NYSC registration procedures, expectations during service, and how to navigate deployment challenges. Students were also briefed on the importance of discipline, adaptability, community service, and personal development while serving in various parts of the country. These sessions aimed to foster a sense of national responsibility and cultural tolerance among the participants. In addition to the technical aspects of NYSC preparation, the orientation also focused on health, safety, and career planning. Human Resources Department trains Maintenance Staff on Basic Work Ethics and Personal Hygiene

The Human Resources Department at Skyline University Nigeria (SUN) has organized a training session for the university’s maintenance staff focused on Basic Work Ethics and Personal Hygiene. The training, aimed at improving staff performance and workplace standards, is part of the department’s ongoing capacity-building efforts to ensure that all personnel uphold professionalism and contribute positively to the campus environment. The session was facilitated by Mr. Surajo Mujtaba, a seasoned lecturer from the School of Basic Medical Sciences (SBMS), who brought both academic expertise and practical insights to the training. He emphasized the importance of core ethical values such as punctuality, responsibility, respect, accountability, and teamwork in maintaining a productive and respectful work atmosphere. Mr. Mujtaba also encouraged the staff to take pride in their roles, noting that every member of the university contributes to the overall success of the institution. Skyline University Nigeria students pay technical visit to Tamburawa Water Plant

Level 400 students of Physiotherapy and Nursing departments from the School of Basic Medical Science (SBMS) at Skyline University Nigeria (SUN) have paid a technical visit to Tamburawa Water Plant in Kano State. The visit was to expose the students to insightful experience to enhance their understanding of water treatment processes and public health. During the visit, the students were guided through the various stages of the water treatment process, including coagulation, sedimentation, filtration, and disinfection. The tour provided them with a first-hand understanding of how water is treated and made safe for public consumption, highlighting the critical link between water quality and public health outcomes. In addition to observing the technical processes, the students interacted with plant officials who explained the importance of maintaining high standards in water treatment and the health implications of waterborne diseases. This practical experience served to bridge the gap between classroom knowledge and practical application in the field of healthcare. The visit to Tamburawa Water Plant reinforced the students’ awareness of the role healthcare professionals play in promoting environmental and public health. It also inspired a deeper appreciation for interdisciplinary collaboration in safeguarding community health through preventive measures and health education. Mass Communication students pay technical visit to Bayero University Press, Premier Radio and Media Trust Group

In a bid to bridge classroom knowledge with practical industry exposure, Mass Communication students of Skyline University Nigeria (SUN) paid a technical visit to Bayero University Press situated at Bayero University Kano (BUK), Premier Radio and Media Trust Group regional office in Kano State – the publishers of Daily Trust Newspapers and Trust TV. The educational excursion, held on April 17th 2025, was designed to deepen students’ understanding of real-world communication practices and particularly publishing production techniques. The visit provided an opportunity for the students to engage directly with experienced staff at the printing press. The students were accompanied by the Head of the Department of Mass Communication, Mr. Bashir Usman and some lecturers from the department – Mr. Usman Bello Balarabe and Ms. Hafsa Bello alongside Mr. Rabiu Hassan, the studio manager at the university. During the tour, the students were received by senior and technical staff, who offered insights into of media publishing and how technology has transformed the industry in recent years. The visit also featured interactive sessions, where students discussed the evolving trends in Nigerian media publishing, challenges in journalism, and the role of communication in national development. Cross fire Debate 24-4-2025

Students of the School of Arts, Management and Social Science emerge winners in SUN interschool crossfire debate

Students of the School of Arts, Management and Social Sciences (SAMSS) have, on April 24th, 2025, emerged winners in the Skyline University Nigeria (SUN) interschool crossfire debate, organized by the Students Services Department (SSD). The trio, Abdulhamid Abdulmumin, Ayah Khalil Abdulfattah and Hauwa Umaima Abdallah, were named victors after securing the highest points of over 200 from the judges. Their opponents, from the School of Science and Information Technology (SSIT), emerged second – Yahya Rabiu Garba, John Paul and Muhammad Khalifa came second. The victors were awarded gifts, medals and a trophy; the runner-up team was given gifts, while the team of competitors from the schools of Legal Studies (SLS) and Basic Medical Sciences (SBMS) were given consolation prizes. In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor SUN congratulated all the students for participating in the debate. He said the university will continue to devise innovative ways that will support them in their upskilling for future endeavours. The competition started on April 21st, 2025, with preliminary rounds where the two schools, SAMSS and SSIT, were chosen to be the finalists after rounds of sessions. The participants discussed for and against the topic of ‘AI and the future of the workforce’ for the preliminary stage. The finalists discussed thoroughly on the subject of ‘If left unchecked, Technology will erase the concept of the nation-state’.   The judges who selected the winners for the interschool crossfire debate are Mr. Adesanya Mudathir Akintundem, CEO of Ifing Media Limited; Dr. Jameel Baba Dara-Dara, a senior lecturer at Bayero University Kano; Eng. Afeez Badmus, Regional Facility Manager at Moniepoint; and Hajiya Bilikisu Sa’ad, the Proprietress of Sunflower Group of Schools. In their various remarks during the event, the judges commended the articulation and presentation of the students. They lauded the efforts of the management of the university in supporting the students education with such forums. They also highlighted areas of improvement that will help the students compete anywhere in the world. The judges were presented with mementos by the DOPR and the deans alongside other staff of the university. MTN, KEDCO, A. A. Rano and others participate in Skyline University Nigeria students career fair

Notable Nigerian companies and businesses were in attendance at the students career fair organised by Skyline University Nigeria (SUN) that was conducted on April 23rd, 2025, at the university’s auditorium. Companies like MTN, KEDCO, Kano Medical Centre, Union Bank, A. A. Rano, Gigee Consultancy, R H Plastics Kaduna, Start-up Kano, Boodcheck and Ilera Care Limited attended the event. The fair was organised by the department of corporate affairs at SUN under the leadership of Ms. Sarada Maganti and the corporate affairs executive, Mr. Umar Faruk Isma’il. The event also had in attendance the Ministry of Information and Technology, while virtually, Raven and Macaw and 3 other organisations were in attendance. In all, the prestigious institution hosted about 15 companies, including the ministry, for the fair. Delivering his remarks during the event, the Vice-Chancellor of SUN, Prof. Ajith Kumar V. V., extended his gratitude on behalf of the institution’s management to the companies that attended the event. He said the event was specially organised to aid students in getting easy access to the companies and pitching their CVs for placements and employment opportunities. He motivated the students and alumni to put in their best during the mock interviews and engagement with the senior managers and HR officials. SUN students and alumni had highly interactive sessions with the companies, with many getting to submit their CVs and having interviews. Particularly, the alumni appreciated the university for continuing to support them after graduation with life-changing opportunities, while the students lauded its efforts in enabling them to realise their potentials early. On the part of the HR experts and senior managers for the various organisations and the ministry, they expressed their satisfaction with the quality of the students. They emphasised the soft skills that the students exhibited and the exceptional communication skills they showcased. School of Science and Information Technology conducts Computer Science Week

The School of Science and Information Technology (SSIT) at Skyline University Nigeria successfully conducted its annual Computer Science Week from April 14th to April 17th, 2025, at the university campus. The event was designed to inspire students to engage more deeply with technology, innovation, and research. It brought together undergraduate students, faculty members, guest speakers, and industry professionals, creating an exciting environment for learning, networking, and discovery within the rapidly evolving field of computer science. In his opening remarks to mark the commencement of the week, Dr. Senthil Kumar, the Dean of SSIT, said the school conducts the week to enable students learn through interactive activities and peer-to-peer learn. He admitted that it serves as an avenue for the students to explore their potentials and career paths. Throughout the week, a wide range of activities were held to enhance students’ technical and soft skills. A major highlight was the Hackathon competition, where teams of students collaborated intensively to develop innovative solutions to real-world challenges within a limited time frame. The Hackathon encouraged creativity, critical thinking, and teamwork, with winners receiving awards and certificates of excellence. Alongside the Hackathon, a series of webinars were organized, featuring renowned experts who spoke on trending topics such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, data science, and software engineering. These sessions offered students cutting-edge insights and career guidance directly from the tech industry’s frontline. Adding to the week’s excitement, students had the opportunity to present their individual and group projects before a panel of judges. These presentations showcased a variety of software applications, mobile apps, and tech-driven initiatives developed as part of their coursework and personal research. The project exhibition not only demonstrated the students’ technical capabilities but also emphasized innovation and entrepreneurship, encouraging them to think beyond academics toward real-world application and potential start-up ideas. The Computer Science Week concluded with a spirited debate competition, where students argued both sides of key technological topics. These debates sharpened the participants’ critical thinking, public speaking, and argumentation skills.
