SUN Vice-Chancellor hosts Vice-Chancellors of Private Universities in Kano State

The Vice-Chancellor of Skyline University Nigeria (SUN) Prof. Ajith Kumar V. V. has yesterday, December 2nd, 2024, hosted eight Vice-Chancellors of private universities in Kano State for the first Forum of Vice-Chancellors of Private Universities in Kano State (FVCPUK). The event was conducted at SUN’s conference room with some of the principal officers of SUN in attendance. In his welcoming address, the Vice-Chancellor of SUN, Prof. Ajith Kumar V. V., said he highly appreciated the attendance of the Vice-Chancellors of the private universities in Kano State for the forum. He said the meeting is needed for the development of higher education in Kano State. He especially applauded the Vice-Chancellor of Azman University Kano, Prof. Fatima Batoul Mukhtar for her efforts towards ensuring the first forum was realized. Prof. Ajith Kumar V. V. said the major areas of engagement between the institutions would be in research, teaching and community service. More so, our effective collaboration will enable us to conduct international conferences, joint conferences, sharing or faculty resources and important community service initiatives, he said. In her remarks during the meeting, the Vice-Chancellor of Azman University Kano, Prof. Fatima Batoul Mukhtar, echoed how her meeting with SUN Vice-Chancellor culminated into the forum. She lauded his dedication and the university’s commitment towards uplifting the standard of education in Kano State and beyond while being a leader in the private university engagement in the state. Worthy of mention, the Vice-Chancellors and representatives of private universities in Kano State that attended the were that of Maryam Abacha American University (MAAUN), Elrazi Medical University, Khalifa Isyaka Rabiu University (KHAIRUN), Baba Ahmed University, Al’Istiqama University and Capital City University. Together, the groundbreaking initiative of the Vice-Chancellors forum enabled fruitful deliberations to foster collaboration and share best practices among private universities in the state. Skyline University Nigeria conducts a week of PSDP sessions for all students

Skyline University Nigeria (SUN) has conducted a weeklong Professional Skills Development Program (PSDP) for all undergraduate students in the university. The PSDP sessions for Fall Semester 2024/2025 academic year for level 100 to 400 were conducted from November 25th to 29th 2024 at the university campus. Students from the School of Legal Studies (SLS) were lectured on ‘Law as an instrument of social control’ and ‘mentorship in law profession’. They were taught on how to get access to mentors and how they can eventually select their career path to supporting communities. For the students of the School of Basic Medical Sciences (SBMS), lecturers taught them important topics – ‘Effective Leadership Skills’, ‘Promoting Mental Health & Well Being’ and ‘Emotional Intelligence and Self Awareness’.   The students of the School of Science and Information Technology (SSIT) were trained on ‘Effective Communication Skills’, ‘Teamwork and Collaboration’ and ‘Time Management’. While students from the School of Arts, Management and Social Sciences (SAMSS), were lectured on ‘Teamwork’, ‘Analytical and Logical Thinking’ and ‘Thinking for the Right Decision Making’. The sessions were conducted to prepare the students to maximize the efforts in attaining high grades and overall academic success in their studies. In their various lectures, the tutors emphasized on creating a routine and having a goal for personal development.

Changing Gear: SUN hosts Hasiyanda International School for lecture

Skyline University Nigeria (SUN) yesterday, November 28th 2024, welcomed students and staff of Hasiyanda International School for Changing Gear lecture. The session held at the university’s ultra-modern common room with over 70 students in attendance. Dr. Musa Innocent Ojeba, a lecturer from the department of Microbiology conducted the first session on attitudes and values while Dr. Sani Rabiu Bello on Legal Ethics. In his presentation, Dr. Ojeba highlighted the critical role that attitudes and values play in shaping an individual’s journey toward success. He emphasized that a positive attitude serves as a catalyst for overcoming challenges, fostering resilience, and maintaining motivation in the face of difficulties. He encouraged participants to view setbacks as opportunities for growth and learning, rather than as insurmountable obstacles. Dr. Ojeba also discussed the importance of strong core values such as integrity, empathy, respect, and responsibility. He explained that these values not only guide personal decision-making but also enhance relationships, build trust, and create a sense of purpose. Using real-life examples, he demonstrated how individuals who embrace positivity and align their actions with strong values are more likely to achieve long-term success in academics, careers, and personal life. He further inspired the students to reflect on their own attitudes and values, encouraging them to make conscious efforts to cultivate habits that align with their goals and aspirations. Dr. Sani Rabiu Bello in his presentation delved into the foundational principles that govern ethical behavior in the legal profession and emphasized their relevance to broader societal development. Dr. Bello highlighted that legal ethics are not only essential for maintaining professionalism within the legal field but also serve as a cornerstone for justice, fairness, and trust in society. He explored critical topics such as accountability, confidentiality, and the duty of care that legal practitioners owe to their clients, colleagues, and the judiciary. The session encouraged the students of Hasiyanda International School to reflect on their own ethical responsibilities and consider how they could apply these principles in their academic and future professional lives. Dr. Bello’s insights provided a clear message: upholding ethics is not only a professional duty but also a moral imperative for building a fair and equitable society. RMK INITIATIVE FOR 280 TEACHERS TRAINING 29-11-2024

RMK Initiative: Skyline University Nigeria trains first batch of teachers on Digital Skills and Teaching Pedagogies

Skyline University Nigeria (SUN) has conducted two-day training for 280 government school teachers, the first batch for the RMK Initiative for 1000 school teachers training. The teachers were trained on digital skills and teaching pedagogies from November 27th to 28th, 2024. On the first day of the training, participants were trained on Microsoft Packages—Excel, Word, and Power Point. This was facilitated by the lecturers from the School of Science and Information Technology (SSIT): Dr. A. Senthil Kumar, Dr. Ashok Kumar, Ms. Hamdi Liwaul and Mr. Sani Abdullahi. The session was done to acquaint the school teachers with basic computer literacy that can aid the discharge of their duties effectively. The participants took part in a hands-on session of how the Microsoft packages work with the guidance of SUN lecturers. The training as the tutors highlighted will support the teachers in saving records, storing data and making presentations. These computer activities are practiced anywhere in the world, hence increasing the speed of work for students. The participants were fully engaged in sessions about teaching pedagogies on November 28th 2024. A team of six lecturers from SUN, collaborated to deliver the session in the university’s Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso Auditorium. Dr. Olumide Ajayi, Mr. Miracle Livinus, Dr. Senthil S. Kumar, Dr. Karimu Moses, Dr. Saminu Umar and Mr. Bashir Usman. The experts provided extensive training on three teaching pedagogies: the storytelling method, group discussions-infused flip class and problem-based learning. These methods have proven to be effective and aid networking and collaboration among students. The teachers participated in group discussions and learning sessions guided by the lecturers to understand the requirements of the teaching pedagogies and how to execute them. Skyline University Nigeria installs new Students Representative Council members for 2024/2025 Academic Year

Skyline University Nigeria (SUN) last week installed new Students Representative Council (SUN) members for the 2024/2025 Academic Year. The event came after the election of the students for different positions by the entire students of the institution. Ahmad Abdullahi Badawi was installed as the President, Aliya Ibrahim as the Vice President, Fatima Bello Balarabe as welfare coordinator, Murtala Lawan Maitama as Public Relations Coordinator, and Asmau Muhammad Tukur as Secretary. In his address during the occasion, the Vice-Chancellor of SUN, Prof. Ajith Kumar V. V., said he is happy to witness another installation of the new SRC members in the university. He narrated that the platform not only equips students with leadership skills but also boosts confidence in the students. He said the university management will be working closely with them by guiding and supporting their journeys. The registrar of the university, Mr. Ahmed Muhammed Abdullahi, who also spoke during the occasion, started by congratulating the students. He said each of them has an obligation to serve the students and the institution well in their various capacities. He encouraged them to lead by example and be role models for other students. Speaking on behalf of the new member during the event, the new president of the SRC, Ahmad Abdullahi Badawi, said they are privileged to serve under the leadership of the Vice-Chancellor and other principal officers of the university. He stated that they will ensure to provide their best services to the students through mutual understanding and collaboration. Skyline University Nigeria launches 1000 Teachers Training on Teaching Pedagogy and Digital Literacy: RMK Initiative

Skyline University Nigeria (SUN) has today, November 27th, 2024, launched the 1000 teachers training on teaching pedagogy and digital literacy, a Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso Initiative, in collaboration with the CSR initiative of the university. The initiative aims to enhance the skills of 1000 school teachers in Kano State with the necessary skills that will enable them to impact the youth in the state. Dr. Ajayi Olumide Abraham, a lecturer in the Department of General Studies, said it is truly an honor to be hosting the training at the university. He said the participants will surely go back to a renewed mindset and knowledge. In his opening remarks, the Vice-Chancellor of SUN, Prof. Ajith Kumar V. V., said he appreciated his Excellency Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso FNSE, the Kano State Governor, Eng. Abba Kabir Yusuf, his Deputy Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam, and other government officials that have actively supported the initiative. He appreciated the ministry of education, the commissioners of education and higher education for nominating the participants for the program. He explained that the university is willing to support the government with training in digital skills and pedagogies that can help them offer knowledge efficiently. The Vice-Chancellor then advised the participants to ensure they benefit from the training and see how they can develop their professional skills. He advised them to uphold ethics and good culture throughout the program. He also encouraged them to do their bits in supporting and strengthening the education system in the country. In his remarks during the event, Dr. Senthil Kumar, the Dean of the School of Science and Information Technology (SSIT), said the program will surely enrich the participants in digital literacy. He said teaching materials and hands-on computer training will be used to guide them during the training. Delivering the closing remarks, Mr. Miracle Livinus, a lecturer in the Department of Microbiology at SUN, said the convergence of SUN management and the participants will forever be memorable in the history of the institution. He said the training is a wonderful way to give back to society and host communities, which is heavily supported by the institution and his Excellency Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, FNSE. Human Resource Department organizes Staff Development Program on Stress Management & Well-Being

The Human Resource Department at Skyline University Nigeria (SUN) has on Friday 22nd 2024, conducted comprehensive Staff Development Program on ‘Stress Management and Well-Being’ aimed at enhancing employees’ mental health and overall productivity. The virtual event was organized for both faculty and operational staff of the institution. Delivering a lecture during the session, Dr. Malachy Udo Usoro, a faculty in the department of management at the university, said “Stress has emerged as a global issue that impacts people from all areas of life. Meeting deadlines, juggling work and personal obligations, or overcoming unforeseen obstacles in life can all cause stress, which can have an adverse effect on one’s mental and physical health. Effective stress management, however, aims to promote general wellbeing in addition to lessening its effects.” Dr. Usoro said Stress is the body’s natural response to challenging situations. While some stress can be motivating (eustress), chronic or unmanaged stress can have adverse effects. He said staff must adopt effective strategies for stress management so that they can be efficient all the time. Some of the proactive strategies he mentioned during the session include; Time Management, Mindfulness and Relaxation Techniques, Healthy Lifestyle Choices, Building Support Networks, Seeking Professional Help, e.t.c. In conclusion the management professional said the goal of stress management is to acquire the skills and attitude necessary to successfully handle life’s obstacles, not to eradicate it. The staff can create a balanced life where stress no longer determines their quality of life by adopting practices that support their physical, emotional, and social well-being. Changing Gear: Skyline University Nigeria hosts students of Nigerian Tulip International Colleges girls section for seminar

Skyline University Nigeria (SUN) has recently hosted the final-year students of the Nigerian Tulip International Colleges (NTIC) girls section on its changing gear seminar. The session was conducted in the campus of SUN at the Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso Auditorium. Ms. Hamdi Liwaul, a lecturer in the department of computer science at SUN, delivered a lecture on ‘Digital Skills for the 21st Century’ to the students. She said the students must learn to make research in all they choose to study in the future. Through this, they can be able to get access to grants, fellowships, and other opportunities that will propel their careers. She said the students can explore available opportunities and plan their careers accordingly. Ms. Liwaul stated that the knowledge of ICT is very important for personal development. Current workplace evolution is changing alongside technological advancement which is why youth especially have to keep up, she added. Ms. Liwaul highlighted that the students can benefit immensely from the endless opportunities in the ICT world with the right skills. Some of the tools she explained include productivity tools like MS Word, Google Docs, Zoom, Excel, and data analytics. She included concepts like cybersecurity and awareness, social media marketing content creation, and SEO, coding, and programming. She then pointed out that AI and machine learning are other important aspects of ICT today. With these they can be able to get access to many opportunities in blockchain technology, big data, virtual reality, e.t.c. Human Resource department conducts Faculty Development Workshop on Incorporating Technology in Pedagogy

The Human Resource Department at Skyline University Nigeria (SUN) has organized a Faculty Development Workshop for the entire faculty of the university on Wednesday 20th 2024. The workshop was conducted to enrich the faulty in the latest technology advancement that can aid teaching and learning processes. In his opening remarks, Mr. Edwin Otene, the Human Resource supervisor at the institution said the session is quite important and a top priority of the institution to ensure that faculty are trained and retrained on the importance of technology in education. During the workshop, Dr. Olufemi Folorunso Ayinde, a lecturer in the department of computer science at SUN, delivered a lecture titled ‘Incorporating Technology in Pedagogy’. He said technology has rapidly transformed the delivery of teaching in higher education institutions.   He admitted that technology has brought with itself engagement and interaction. This is why tutors must adopt its use to ensure knowledge is interactive and engaging. Dr. Ayinde, a seasoned professional in the computer science discipline explained that he has gained and applied knowledge using technology in his years of teaching and encouraged the faculty to do so too. Some of the impacts of technology in education which he mentioned include fostering team work and flexibility in teaching. He said it also helps to develop the passion of students in learning. ICE AND DIGITAL LITERACY PROGRAM 22-11-2024

Skyline University Nigeria launches ICE and Digital Literacy program, a CSR Initiative in collaboration with Kano State Governor

Skyline University Nigeria (SUN) has today, November 22nd 2024, launched the Innovation, Creativity and Entrepreneurship (ICE) and Digital Literacy program, a Corporate Social Responsibility initiative of SUN in collaboration with Kano State Governor, Eng. Abba Kabir Yusuf. The initiative is established to train youth and women entrepreneurs on digital skills, innovative and creative solutions, and 21st century entrepreneurship skills. In his welcoming remarks, Mr. Aliyu Muhammed, a lecturer in the department at SUN, said the participants are privileged to receive qualitative education from the international standard university. He said the tutors that will be coaching them have prepared practical and theoretical contents that will highly enrich them in the latest skills. Launching the event, the Vice-Chancellor of SUN, Prof. Ajith Kumar V. V., welcomed the participants and congratulated them for being selected for the program. He lauded the support of Eng. Abba Kabir Yusuf in supporting the initiative and advised them to make the best use of the opportunity to acquire knowledge and skills. He said they should learn to develop expertise in the areas that they’ll be coached on. The Vice-Chancellor said the university will encourage successful candidates who are able to present business pitches by funding their companies. He also encouraged them to change their mindset by networking and connecting with experts. In her remarks, Dr. Sudha Mavuri, the Dean of the School of Arts, Management and Social Science (SAMSS), said the program is specially targeted at youth and women’s development in entrepreneurship. She added that entrepreneurship is transforming, and as such, entrepreneurs need to be updated with necessary skills. The Dean of the School of Science and Information Technology (SSIT), Dr. A. Senthil Kumar, who also spoke during the launch, said technology transforms the way businesses are being delivered. With the coaching and practical sessions that will be delivered, the participants will gain insights into how they can upgrade their businesses. Also, delivering her remarks during the launch, the Director of Public and Government Relations (DOPR), Ms. Sarada Maganti, appreciated the Kano State Governor, Eng. Abba Kabir Yusuf, for his dedication and support to women and youth development in the state. She assured the participants that no stone will be left unturned in giving them qualitative skills that will help them advance their careers.
