Professor Faruk Sarkinfada ​

Faruk Sarkinfada is a Professor of Medical Microbiology, Public Health Laboratory, and a Quality Assurance Specialist. He is currently the Dean of the School of Basic Medical Sciences at Skyline University Nigeria.

Academic summary:

He has a Ph.D. from the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, University of Liverpool, UK. With 30 years of experience in teaching, research and community services in Nigeria, United Kingdom, United Arab Emirates, his academic work focuses on diagnostic microbiology laboratory systems, quality assurance, infectious diseases and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) surveillance. Sarkinfada’s work has been published in high impact peer review journals cited numerous times, and he has collaborated with other researchers in his field. He is also a peer reviewer for several scientific journals, including the Journal of Infections in Developing Countries, Malaria Journal and the Journal of Global Infectious Diseases. He was the Editor-in-chief, Annals of Medical Laboratory Scientist, West African Postgraduate College of Medical Laboratory Sciences. He is a frequent presenter at local and international conferences, seminars and symposia and he developed and implemented postgraduate programs leading to masters and doctoral degrees in medical microbiology and medical health sciences.  He has also designed and delivered professional certificate courses on infectious disease epidemiology and control strategies, infectious disease diagnostics, medical mycology, water hygiene and sanitation and vector biology and control. Professor Sarkinfada held several academic positions, including the Deputy Dean, Faculty of Clinical Sciences, Head, Department of Medical Microbiology and Parasitology, Postgraduate Coordinator, College of Health Sciences, Bayero University Kano as well as the Head of Research and Entrepreneurships in Khawarizmi International College (now LIWA University), Abu Dhabi, United Arabs Emirates, UAE.

Professional summary:

He is a fellow of the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (FRSTM & H) UK, a Fellow of the West African Postgraduate College of Medical Laboratory Science (WAPCMLS)and a Fellow of the Ford Foundation International Fellowship Program, USA. He also served as the national laboratory consultant to the Nigeria’s Tuberculosis and Malaria control programs. He participated in the development of Nigeria’s National Medical Laboratory Strategic Plan (NMLSt) and has extensive knowledge of modeling of quality assurance systems and setting standards for national health surveillance systems and laboratory services. With in-depth knowledge of laboratory and healthcare systems, as well as the governing policies and regulations in Low- and Middle-Income Countries (LMIC), he founded the Frontline Biomedical Consultants, a healthcare consulting company provides quality supplies, support, and training services to support Nigeria’s healthcare system goals and aspirations. He brings along his vast academic and professional experience in health and medical sciences, acquired in Nigeria, the UK, UAE, and globally, to make a meaningful impact in Skyline University Nigeria.
