Skyline University Nigeria Partners LACON, PRAWA on Paralegal Training and Certification Programme.

Skyline University Nigeria, Kano, has entered into a partnership with the Legal Aid Council of Nigeria (LACON) and Prisoners’ Rehabilitation and Welfare Action (PRAWA) to establish a Paralegal Training and Certification Programme aimed at equipping aspiring paralegals with relevant knowledge and practical skills.

The partnership, formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), is designed to support the training, evaluation and certification of individuals and students seeking to develop professional competence in paralegal practice.

According to the MOU, the collaboration is based on LACON’s mandate to regulate the certification of paralegals, alongside PRAWA’s experience and expertise in teaching, evaluation and related areas.

The programme is also intended to provide adequate training for aspiring paralegal professionals to acquire the knowledge and skills required to effectively provide legal assistance to lawyers, relevant justice institutions and communities.

The MOU further references Sections 17(3) and 23(4) of the Legal Aid Council of Nigeria Act, 2011, which provide LACON with powers relating to the regulation and licensing of paralegal practice in Nigeria.

Under the partnership, Skyline University Nigeria will be responsible for setting guidelines and entry requirements for prospective students, determining the eligibility of candidates and conducting admission exercises.

The University will also utilise the approved paralegal curriculum and other instructional materials in designing lectures for participants.

The programme reflects the growing importance of structured training in developing individuals with the knowledge and skills required to support access to legal assistance and contribute meaningfully to justice-related institutions and communities.

Through the collaboration with LACON and PRAWA, Skyline University Nigeria is expanding opportunities for professional learning while supporting the development of trained and certified paralegals.

The partnership further reinforces the University’s commitment to practical, professionally relevant education that responds to the needs of society and the changing demands of the legal sector.
